Traditional Chinese Steamed Chicken Essence
The ultimate nourishing Guangdong-style steamed chicken essence — pure, single-origin poultry essence extracted with zero added water or seasonings for maximum concentrated flavor.
Steamed chicken essence is a time-honored traditional remedy rooted in Guangdong culinary wisdom. By utilizing a unique inverted bowl method inside a steaming pot, a whole chicken yields just a single bowl of pure, nutrient-rich broth without a single drop of added water. It is prized for comforting the body, boosting vitality, and supporting a weak constitution.
Ingredients
- 1 whole local chicken
- 3–4 slices fresh ginger
- 1 tbsp goji berries
Instructions
- 1Chop the chicken

Clean the whole chicken thoroughly and chop it into smaller, manageable pieces, then place them into a large bowl.
Tip: Ensure the chicken is thoroughly cleaned and cut into uniform pieces for even steaming. - 2Position the inverted bowl

Place a small white bowl upside down right in the center of the steaming pot or cooker container.
Tip: The inverted bowl collects the pure chicken essence as it condenses and runs down. - 3Arrange the chicken

Carefully arrange the chopped chicken pieces in a circle around the inverted bowl inside the pot.
Tip: Pack the chicken neatly around the sides so they surround the central bowl evenly. - 4Add aromatics

Place sliced ginger and goji berries evenly on top of the arranged chicken pieces.
Tip: Ginger helps remove any gamey odor while enhancing the fragrance of the essence. - 5Steam the chicken

Close the electric steamer lid securely and set the timer to steam the chicken for 40 minutes without adding any water.
Tip: Do not add any water or seasonings to the chicken to preserve the pure, original flavor. - 6Release the Chicken Essence

Carefully lift the small inverted bowl out of the larger vessel, allowing the golden, concentrated chicken essence to flow out and mix with the surrounding juices.
Tip: Lift the bowl slowly and steadily to avoid splashing the precious essence.
