Tonkotsu ramen is beloved for its rich, creamy broth and satisfying depth of flavor. This recipe brings that experience into your own kitchen using an electric pot, combining the convenience of instant ramen with thoughtful toppings like a fried egg and cherry blossom-shaped fish cakes to elevate your meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pack tonkotsu instant ramen
- 1 egg
- 2 king oyster mushrooms
- 1 small bunch bok choy
- 3-4 cherry blossom fish cakes
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- to taste spicy ramen sauce
- to taste sesame seeds
- to taste chopped green onions
Instructions
- 1Fry the egg

Heat a small amount of oil in your electric pot over medium-low heat. Crack the egg into the pot and fry until the white is firm while keeping the yolk slightly runny.
Tip: Keep the heat on low to medium to ensure the egg doesnt burn. - 2Set the egg aside

Carefully lift the fried egg out of the pot using chopsticks or a spatula. Place it in a bowl and set aside to keep the yolk intact while you prepare the soup.
Tip: Handle the egg carefully to keep the yolk intact. - 3Prepare the mushroom broth

Add fresh water to the pot and bring it to a boil. Toss in the sliced king oyster mushrooms and boil until they become tender and absorb the heat.
Tip: You can add a pinch of salt to the water to season the mushrooms while they boil. - 4Cook the noodles

Add the instant ramen noodle block to the boiling mushroom broth. Ensure the noodles are fully submerged so they cook evenly.
Tip: Do not overcook the noodles if you prefer them with a firmer texture. - 5Add vegetables and toppings

Stir in the bok choy and cherry blossom fish cakes. Cook for about one minute until the greens are wilted and the fish cakes are heated through.
Tip: These decorative fish cakes add a nice aesthetic touch to your ramen. - 6Season the broth

Pour in the ramen liquid soup base and your desired amount of spicy sauce. Stir well to ensure the seasoning is fully dissolved in the broth.
Tip: Adjust the amount of spicy sauce according to your desired heat level. - 7Incorporate the sauce

Use your chopsticks to gently lift and turn the noodles, ensuring the spicy broth is evenly distributed throughout the dish.
Tip: Mix gently to avoid breaking the noodles, especially if you prefer them with a firmer texture. - 8Garnish and serve

Carefully place the reserved fried egg on top of the ramen. Serve immediately so the yolk can melt into the hot broth.
Tip: The soft yolk adds a wonderful richness to the spicy tonkotsu broth once you break into it.
