A sizzling skillet masterpiece of spicy kimchi, tender beef slices, and savory gochujang sauce, blanketed in melted mozzarella and crowned with a fried egg.
Korean kimchi fried rice, or kimchi bokkeumbag, is the ultimate comfort food that turns pantry staples into an explosion of bold flavors. Adding tender beef slices and a generous layer of melting cheese elevates the classic dish into a rich, decadent treat, perfectly balanced by the fermented tang of aged kimchi and a sunny-side-up egg on top.
Ingredients
- 200 g beef slices
- 1 cup kimchi
- 2 bowls white rice
- 100 g shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 onion
- 2 stalks green onions
- 2 tbsp Korean spicy sauce
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Sprite
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- to taste roasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- 1Blanch the beef slices

Boil a pot of water, add the beef slices to blanch, skim off the foam that forms on the surface, and set aside for later use.
Tip: Make sure to skim off the foam thoroughly to keep the beef clean and tender. - 2Mix the special sauce

Combine two spoons of Korean spicy sauce, one spoon of light soy sauce, one spoon of Sprite, one spoon of sugar, one spoon of sesame oil, and an appropriate amount of roasted sesame seeds in a small bowl, then stir well.
Tip: Adding Sprite helps tenderize the flavor profile and adds a subtle sweetness. - 3Sauté the aromatics

Heat oil in a pan, add the cut onions and green onions, and stir-fry them until fragrant.
Tip: Stir continuously over medium heat to avoid burning the green onions. - 4Stir-fry the beef

Pour the previously blanched beef slices into the pan with the sautéed onions and stir-fry them together.
Tip: Quickly toss the beef with the onions so they blend well before adding other ingredients. - 5Add kimchi

Add kimchi into the pan with the beef and onions, and stir-fry everything evenly.
Tip: Chop the kimchi slightly if preferred for better distribution in the fried rice. - 6Add rice

Add white rice to the pan and stir-fry everything together until thoroughly combined.
Tip: Use cold or leftover cooked rice for the best fried rice texture. - 7Pour the special sauce

Pour the prepared special sauce over the stir-fried beef, kimchi, and rice mixture in the pan.
Tip: Ensure the sauce is evenly distributed as you pour it in to flavor all the grains of rice. - 8Add shredded cheese

Sprinkle a generous amount of organic shredded mozzarella cheese evenly across the top of the fried rice in the pan.
Tip: Spread the cheese out uniformly so every portion gets a cheesy pull when melted. - 9Cover and simmer to melt cheese

Place a transparent glass lid tightly over the pan and let it simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes until the cheese completely melts into the fried rice.
Tip: Keep the heat low so the bottom of the rice does not burn while the cheese melts from the trapped steam. - 10Fry the Shaped Eggs

Place special cooking molds in the pan and crack an egg into each shape to fry them until fully cooked and set.
Tip: Lightly grease the inside of the molds to prevent the eggs from sticking and ensure a clean release.
